DEA Finalizes Rule on Transfer of Electronic Prescriptions

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) recently issued a final rule on the transfer of electronic prescriptions for schedules II-V controlled substances between registered retail pharmacies. Effective Monday, August 28, upon the request from the patient, a registered retail pharmacy may transfer an electronic prescription for schedules II-V controlled substances to another registered retail pharmacy for initial filling, on a one-time basis for each prescription, in accordance with state law.

FDA Requires REMS for Newly Approved Narcolepsy Medication

Lumryz was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating cataplexy or excessive daytime sleepiness in adults with narcolepsy. To prescribe this medication, physicians must first complete a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) to reduce the risk of misuse, abuse, and diversion of the medication.
