Events, Programs Planned for Women Psychiatrists At Annual Meeting
Women members of APA are invited to drop by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) at APA’s 2000 annual meeting in Chicago.
The WRC will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday, May 15, through Wednesday, May 17. The location will be announced in a future issue of Psychiatric News.
Special events for women APA members will be held at the WRC throughout the meeting, and materials on women’s programs will be available. The Committee on Women is planning a networking luncheon for representatives of district branch women’s committees on Wednesday, May 17, from noon to 2 p.m. in the WRC. This event is by invitation and will be chaired by committee member Doris Gundersen, M.D.
Deborah Spitz, M.D., another member of the Committee on Women, is organizing a question-and-answer luncheon session for Tuesday, May 16, at noon in the WRC on strategies for passing the board examinations.
The APA Women’s Mentoring Network is entering its third successful year. On Tuesday, May 16, committee members Lisa Kotler, M.D., and Smita Patel, M.D., will host a breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the WRC for current participants as well as for those interested in joining the network as a mentor or mentee. Network members will give advice on how to get the most out of a mentoring relationship.
Other events of interest to women include the component workshop sponsored by the Committee on Women, "Generations of Mentoring: From Receiving to Giving" to be held in Room 4D of the Chicago Hilton from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 15. In this workshop, chaired by Spitz, five women psychiatrists will share their experiences on mentoring.
Nada Stotland, M.D., the 2000 Symonds Award winner, will deliver the Alexandra Symonds Award Lecture on Monday, May 15, at 9 a.m.
The Caucus of Women Psychiatrists and the Association of Women Psychiatrists will hold their annual joint meeting on Monday, May 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided, and enrollment forms for both groups will be available.
