Four Sessions Will Focus on the DSM in Progress

Four informational sessions focusing on work currently underway for the next DSM will be presented at the Annual Meeting.

And for those who can’t wait, you can meet some of the people behind the next DSM this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. PT at one of the Annual Meeting’s new features: Meet the Professor Sessions. In this interactive one-hour discussion, attendees can engage in a lively dialogue with panelists about the strengths and limitations of the DSM and provide feedback on the framework for the next iteration of this manual.

APA’s 17-member Future of DSM Strategic Committee is seeking to create a diagnostic system for the next iteration of the DSM, which will be renamed the Diagnostic and Scientific Manual. The goal is for the new DSM to more holistically capture the variability in presentations among patients with psychiatric symptoms and address the comorbidity that currently characterizes many psychiatric patients across diagnoses.
