Question of the Day: What’s in the Exhibit Hall?

Every day, Psychiatric News will be asking Annual Meeting attendees a question. For the third day of the conference, we were wondering: What are you looking for in the APA Exhibit Hall?

We heard from medical students sharing their research, international psychiatrists learning about new therapies, and even someone who was hypnotized in the Mental Health Innovation Zone. Watch the video or read the lightly edited transcript below to learn more.

Efe Sari, fourth-year medical student, Acibadem University School of Medicine, Istanbul: It’s a great place that brings all of us together: my peers and all of the future leaders of psychiatry, in some sense. We can share our ideas about what the future for psychiatry looks like.

Joanne Lee, M.D., adult psychiatrist, California: There are many things. As a person in private practice, I love to find out about all the new developments, the new research that’s happening with the poster sessions. And also, to meet other people. It is a really great ground for networking.

Charlotte Massunken, M.D., first-year resident, Loretto Hospital: What I’ve been looking forward to the most is meeting all my APA fellows and past ambassadors, which has been a great opportunity. Thank you so much, past ambassadors!

Sherwin Shabdar, M.D., first-year resident, Kaiser Permanente San Jose: Learning new things, meeting new people, and whatever free samples they have.

Amalia Santinelli, M.D., psychiatrist, Argentina: I’m learning so much about some meds that are not in my country. And some research and therapies that we do not have.

Farhad Huseynov, medical student, Bursa Uludag University, Istanbul: Just meeting with people is motivating. It just keeps us focused and give us ideas and encouragement.

Randall Gurak, M.D., psychiatrist, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania: Well, I was hoping to get hypnotized, and I guess I was. It was a very strange experience. Surreal. It’s all starting to come back. I believe I was crying and laughing. Now it seems relaxing. Right afterwards, it didn’t seem so. It just seemed…. I needed to get my bearings again. ■
