Join Your Colleagues at the New Community Psychiatry Hub

While the Mental Health Services Conference may be no more, community psychiatry and the dedicated mental health professionals who directly serve communities remain an important APA constituency. To that end, this year’s Annual Meeting will feature a dedicated Community Psychiatry Hub, which will be located at Petree Hall C of the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Throughout the five-day meeting, the Community Psychiatry Hub will feature:

  • 17 thought-provoking lectures curated by the APA Community Psychiatry Committee
  • 24 community-focused posters spread across three sessions
(noon – 1:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday)
  • Networking opportunities that highlight innovative approaches and advancements in community psychiatry.

This year’s list of sessions will cover a range of evergreen community topics, including psychiatrists’ role in preventing gun violence, getting people off the streets and into supported housing, and increasing rural communities’ access to care. However, there are also a few sessions of timely relevance. Monday afternoon, for example, will include a session at 1:30 p.m. PT on how communities build resilience in the aftermath of a disaster, followed by a special town hall-style event at 3:45 p.m. PT that will explore how mental health professionals can make a difference in their communities during a period of traumatic polarization and disrupted Federal support.

The sessions at the Hub will be jointly accredited and offer continuing education credits for psychiatry, nursing, psychology, and social work.
