Physicians and teaching hospitals have until May 15 to review and/or dispute the data on payments or other transfers of value from pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers that were reported to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for 2018. The data are posted in the Open Payments system and will be made available to the public on or about June 30.
If a physician waits to initiate a dispute until after the data have been made public, the data will not be flagged as disputed in the public database until CMS updates the information.
If physicians and teaching hospitals registered for Open Payments access last year, they do not need to register again. Click here for additional program information and resources.
If it has been over 180 days since a physician or teaching hospital has logged onto the Enterprise Identity Management System (EIDM), the account was deactivated for security purposes. To reactivate, physicians and teaching hospitals should contact the Help Desk by emailing openpayments@cms.hhs.gov. Live help is available Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (ET), excluding federal holidays, by calling (855) 326-8366; the TTY line is (844) 649-2766.
The collection and reporting of these data are required under the Physician Payment Sunshine Act (PPSA), part of the Affordable Care Act.
